Pumpkin Spice & Märzens so Nice; We're Celebrating Fall in the Spruce Street Taproom
We at Cigar City Brewing rely on our Taproom beers to mark the passing of time and it’s with great excitement that we announce the release of two autumnal beers exclusive to the Spruce Street Taproom: Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Lederhosen, Lederhosen, Lederhosen Oktoberfest-style Lager.
Good Gourd, our award-winning Imperial Pumpkin Ale, is making its return this September and will be exclusively available at our brewery’s Spruce Street Tap Room. Though it’s brewed with a generous heap of pumpkin, Good Gourd’s aim is more “pumpkin pie” than “pumpkin,” with cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice all sitting front and center on the nose and palate. The beer has earned a cult following since its launch in 2010 and has been included in RateBeer’s Top Ten Pumpkin Ales since 2014. After seeing release in 22 oz. bottles and on nitro in previous years, we’re focusing this year on 12 oz. cans and draft for this gob of gourdy goodness. Good Gourd clocks in at a hefty 8.8% ABV, making it a truly unique beer in the Pumpkin Ale category. The beer has also served as a base for several barrel-aged Imperial Pumpkin Ales appropriately named Good Gourd Almighty and Good Gourd Have Mercy.
A new Taproom offering that celebrates Oktoberfest, the biggest party in the world, is Lederhosen, Lederhosen, Lederhosen, which nods firmly toward the Märzen tradition with its amber color, bready malt complexity, and restrained hop flavor and bitterness. At the heart of this beer is a malt bill of five different German malt varieties, including a generous helping of Munich malt. After adding Akoya hops (also from Germany), we ferment the beer with an authentic German lager yeast, resulting in a clean, dry and complex lager that’s at once intriguing and drinkable. Lederhosen, Lederhosen, Lederhosen Oktoberfest-style Lager will be available on draft and in 16 oz. cans exclusively in the Spruce Street Taproom beginning this September. Visitors can also pick up a limited edition Lederhosen, Lederhosen, Lederhosen stein exclusively in the Spruce Street Taproom while supplies last.
We can’t think of better beers than Good Gourd and Lederhosen, Lederhosen, Lederhosen to complement the onset of autumn. Pour yourself a stein and let out a hearty “prost!”
