David Humphreys' Barleywine

Barrel-aged Barleywine-style Ale

Did you know?

After Portugal became the first neutral nation to recognize the independence of the United States of America, Revolutionary War hero David Humphreys was appointed Minister to Portugal to strengthen the young nation’s relationship with the Kingdom. This beer continues this alliance through an aging process that involves Port barrels from the Douro Valley that were sent to Kentucky to age Bourbon whiskey before continuing on to Tampa where they were filled with the American Barleywine-style Ale you find in your hand.

Tasting Notes

Plum, raisin, molasses and dark chocolate aromas abound, with vanilla and oak playing a supporting role. Flavors of raisin pudding, semi-sweet chocolate, overripe orange and brown sugar coat the palate with wood tannins and a tempered bitterness playing foil to the sweet, viscous base beer.
