Chardonnay Barrel-aged New Original Amateur Hour

Chardonnay Barrel-aged New Original Amateur Hour

Chardonnay Barrel-aged Wheat Wine

Did you know?

Our entry into this year’s GABF Pro-Am competition, this recipe was developed by an amateur brewer who suggested the name “Amateur Hour,” a reference to an old TV and radio show that would feature amateur talent. That name, however, was taken so we took the name of a 90’s reboot of the show, the ignorantly named “New Original Amateur Hour”.

This is the fourth time we’ve submitted a beer to GABF’s Pro-Am competition. Previous entries have included a Dortmunder Export and Jeff Gladish’s Poblano Double Witbier that won gold in the competition in 2013. In order to qualify for the Pro-Am competition, the homebrewer must be an American Homebrew Association member and the beer must place in an official AHA competition; we use the Best Florida Beer Homebrew Competition as the qualifying competition and we take the gold medal winner’s recipe as our GABF Pro-Am entry

Tasting Notes

A nose of red apple, raisin pudding and toffee are accentuated by a pleasant aroma of alcohol that previews the beer’s hefty ABV content. A texture from the malted wheat that makes up over 50% of the grist and high carbonation help to balance the sweetness of caramel and molasses flavors, while Calypso hops add the complexity of orange and black pepper on the palate.
