Bourbon Barrel-aged Imperial Stout with Vanilla, Cacao Nibs and Bourbon Barrel-aged Coffee

Bourbon and coffee. Coffee and bourbon. We underscore the relationship between these two delightful libations by aging a titanic Imperial Stout brewed with cacao nibs and vanilla in bourbon barrels, then adding coffee beans that have themselves been rested in separate bourbon barrels. The resulting beer combines the roastiness of espresso with the spiciness of fine bourbon and the rich chocolate flavor of an obsidian-black Imperial Stout.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of fresh-ground arabica coffee, vanilla beans and woody spiciness dominate the nose in this imposing Imperial Stout while the palate finds strong flavors of fudge, espresso and raisin pudding balanced by moderate wood tannins. Vanilla sweetness combines with vanillin from white oak use to age both the beer and the coffee to ease any rough roastiness or rough flavors.
