Introducing Frost Proof Belgian-style White Ale
Since our opening in 2009, our brewery has embraced the unique esoterica of our home state of Florida. Be it the high-speed history of jai alai, the rich culture of cigar making, or the unbelievable exploits of Florida Man, our team has drawn inspiration from the culture, cuisine, and history of the Sunshine State. With our newest year-round release, we’re leaning into the oft-overlooked small towns of the Mid-Florida Ridge and its history as one of the most active citrus-growing regions in the world. We’re excitedly announcing the addition of Frost Proof Belgian-style White Ale to our year-round lineup. Brewed with orange peel, coriander, and an authentic Belgian yeast strain, the 6.0% ABV wheat beer joined our year-round portfolio this past June.
Inspired by the classic wheat beers of Belgium, Frost Proof Belgian-style White Ale boasts a slightly higher alcohol strength than many beers in the style, which helps to emphasize a more expressive fruit character and assertive flavor profile. The hallmark ingredients of this classic beer style are found, including unmalted wheat, coriander, orange peel, and a Belgian yeast that contributes the style’s familiar lemon and lime-like esters. Texture from wheat and a lively carbonation help create balance and give Frost Proof a bright effervescence. Though bold in flavor and character, the beer’s light body and complexity make it ideal for pairing with salads and mild intensity seafood dishes.
As we introduce Frost Proof Belgian-style White Ale, we will retire Florida Cracker Belgian-style White Ale from our year-round portfolio. Though the new offering makes use of similar ingredients and an identical Belgian yeast, Frost Proof’s higher ABV emphasizes its citrus quality more assertively and allows for a more impactful expression of yeast esters. Graphic elements from Florida Cracker’s packaging can be found in the artwork for Frost Proof, providing a sense of continuity and evolution between the two wheat beer brands. When naming the new brand, our brewers offered a nod to the central Florida town of Frostproof, a town whose proximity to the traditional grazing land of the Florida cracker cowboys of the 19th century offers an additional, more subtle brand connection.
“We are very excited about the continuation of production in the Belgian-style Witbier category, this time with a slightly bolder stance,” said Brewmaster Wayne Wambles. “Frost Proof Belgian-style White Ale will retain the same flavor profile that Florida Cracker fans have come to love but will be a bit more robust due to a slight increase in alcohol content.”
